Asbestos is natural and exists in the air in very low levels. Your exposure was extremely low, probably not measurable. No need to worry. Dust in an old house would be a bigger concern. That may be the cause of your friends trouble or it may not be related to the house at all. It was not asbestos which takes 10-40 years to be a problem with such exposures.
A single brief exposure is unlikely to produce any significant risk and is certainly NOT responsible for your symptoms.
How do you know the house contained asbestos, did you see it, were there warning signs on the building, and what did it look like? A description would be helpful. A lot of people confuse asbestos with other materials such as fibreglass.
Asbestos fibres are so tiny that they can’t be detected even on an X-Ray. The X-Ray will show the extent of damage on the surrounding tissue, so unfortunately there is no way of telling if it is in your body. Brief exposures are unlikely to cause disease, and it also depends what kind of asbestos you believe you were exposed to for how long. Asbestos diseases have a long latency period, so your friends symptoms were completely unrelated. If you go into buildings containing asbestos in the future, wear the right protection, an FFP3 rated mask will protect you from toxic fibres.
If you were pulling up some old vinyl floors and they had asbestos in them then I can see your friend having problems… but since asbestos when airborne like that (walking into a room etc.) exists at pretty low levels your friend may have just had a simple headache that day. I don’t think you should worry but if you are here is some info on asbestos and Mesothlioma: http://www.findanyfloor.com/MesotheliomaAsbestosInformation.xhtml if you want to read up more on it. Also, you can always go to your doctor, or get lawyer/friends advice if you are truly concerned… I think you will be fine!
